Mateyko blends an eclectic variety of influences and tonal approaches into his compositions, production, and live performances, cultivating a unique sense of escape and exploration for those around him. Garnering vocabulary from

a wide variety of improvisational music, hip hop, electronic music, and R&B, Mateyko focuses on building bridges between sonic ideas and emotional impact.

Born with the heart condition Tetralogy of Fallot, Mateyko required open heart surgery as an infant and would frequently be held in neonatal intensive care units. Shortly after infancy, Mateyko developed sick sinus syndrome, requiring the implant of a pacemaker. Throughout childhood, Mateyko could not engage in contact sports with other children, and music provided an outlet to express himself and a sense of

comfort and community.

Mateyko began his musical performing through benefit concerts for the Children’s Heart Foundation and Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. In his childhood and adolescence, Mateyko has honed in on a richly dynamic and layered musical identity. At 16, Mateyko was featured in ABC7 Chicago’s Windy City LIVE while attending the illustrious Chicago Academy for the Arts, showcasing his ability as a solosist. At 19 years old, Mateyko’s genre-flexing quartet opened for metal pioneers Living Colour. Mateyko originally hails from the Chicagoland metropolitan area and is set to complete a B.M. at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music in May 2024. He has primarily studied with world-class jazz bassists Matt Brewer and Reuben Rogers, and San Francisco Symphony Principal Bassist Scott Pingel. Mateyko has

received tutelage from various other artists such as

Sharay Reed and Joshua Redman.
